Riteish’s ‘Raja Shivaji’ blast, will all records of Marathi films be broken?

Riteish Deshmukh’s new film ‘Raja Shivaji’ is all set to make a bang at the box office. The film will bring the story of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s reign and his struggle with Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb to the big screen. The film is expected to break all the old records of Marathi cinema. However, comparing it to a big budget Hindi film like ‘Chhawa’ would be a bit different.
The film has started very well. By 2 pm on Thursday, more than 1 lakh tickets of the film had been sold. The film has earned Rs 2.5 crore from advance bookings, of which the Hindi version has a share of Rs 20 lakh. 5,000 tickets are being sold every hour on BookMyShow. It is expected that the booking figure will cross Rs 3 crore by Friday. This is the biggest booking ever for any Marathi film.

First day earnings
The film may take an opening of Rs 6-7 crore in Marathi language. Its Hindi version can also earn more than Rs 1 crore. Overall the film will earn Rs 8-9 crore on the first day and if the craze continues it may even touch the Rs 10 crore mark.
Old records were broken
The film will break the record of 2016 release Nagaraj Manjule’s ‘Sairat’, which earned Rs 4.2 crore on the first day. Riteish Deshmukh has surpassed the record of Rs 3.5 crore of his previous film ‘Vade’. However, it cannot be compared to ‘Chhawa’ which had an opening of Rs 30 crore and ‘Tanaji’ which had an opening of Rs 15 crore as they were big Hindi films.
