After Venezuela and Iran, it’s Cuba’s turn! Why did Trump fall behind this country?

Whether kidnapping Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, attacking Iran or threatening any other country, Donald Trump has been in a very aggressive mood in his second term. Now Donald Trump has threatened America’s old ‘enemy’ Cuba and said that he is ahead. Cuba is also trying to reach an agreement by talking to the US so that the situation does not worsen. Trump has been making repeated threats amid chaos in Cuba and several countries expressing concern over its sovereignty. Despite pressure from Donald Trump, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel is unwilling to step down and tensions remain.
Recently, Spain, Brazil and Mexico issued a joint statement saying that the Cuban people are suffering a humanitarian tragedy and that immediate and effective steps are needed to remedy this. Recently, Donald Trump said that if he wants, he can do anything with Cuba. He also said that he felt he would have the honor of occupying Cuba.
What is happening in Cuba?
Cuba, a small country located between the United States and South American countries, is close to the US state of Florida. Cuba is surrounded by sea on all four sides, so it does not share a land border with any country. The Communist Party of Cuba has been in power in America for a long time and Miguel Diaz Canales of this party is the president since 2018. Let us tell you once to remind you that the famous leader Fidel Castro was the president of Cuba.

The current issue is that the US has been putting pressure on Cuba for the past several months. In January 2026, Donald Trump wrote, ‘For many years, Cuba was dependent on oil and money from Venezuela. In return, Cuba provided security services to Venezuela’s last two dictators, but that will no longer be the case. No more oil or money would be given to Cuba. I suggest that Cuba reach an agreement before it is too late.’
America has hurt Cuba
Due to the many restrictions imposed by the United States, the people of Cuba are troubled. After stopping the oil supply of Cuba, the US has stopped many other countries as well. The result is that oil supplies to Cuba are severely disrupted. Now there is no electricity in many places and people up to the country’s capital, Havana, are living in darkness. Surgeries in hospitals have also had to be postponed due to lack of electricity. Due to the oil shortage, transportation has come to a standstill and essential goods are not being supplied.
In fact, the production of electricity in Cuba is also done from oil. The public transport system runs on this oil and electricity. Now almost the entire country has come to a standstill due to the lack of oil. Now even pumps and tankers supplying drinking water are not working. People are burning wood for cooking and heating water. People in the capital Havana are living without electricity for 15 hours.
How will the crisis end?
America wants a complete change in Cuba at the political and economic level. The Communist Party of Cuba wants to retain power at any cost and that is why the matter is stuck. The US also wants Cuba to accept that its current president will step down as part of the deal. There has also been a threat to confront the situation in Venezuela.

Trump has also repeatedly threatened that he has several options if Cuba does not comply. He has also said that after dealing with Iran, Cuba is ahead. Now Cuba also says it is talking. However, it is not yet clear what terms are being negotiated.
What is the conflict between America and Cuba?
The history of relations between the two countries is hundreds of years old. Earlier, Cuba was under Spain, but when America defeated Spain in 1898, Spain handed over Cuba to America. Cuba became independent in 1902 but was protected by the United States. The US also intervened in Cuban affairs. When a rebellion led by Jose Miguel Gómez broke out, the United States reoccupied Cuba.
In 1909, elections were held under American supervision and the government of Jose Miguel Gomez was formed. When blacks protested in 1912, the US military returned to Cuba. In 1953 Fide Castro attempted a coup but failed.
The real rivalry starts from the year 1959. At the time, Cuba had a US-backed government and was overthrown by communist leader Fidel Castro. At the time, the US recognized the new government, but as Cuba moved closer to the Soviet Union, US irritation grew. After this, the US targeted Cuba and started imposing economic sanctions. At the time of John F. Kennedy, the United States stopped the supply of essential goods to Cuba.

In 1961, the United States tried to overthrow the government of Fidel Castro but failed. Later George Bush and Bill Clinton created the Helms Burton Act. Under this, the sanctions imposed on Cuba will not be lifted until democracy comes to Cuba and Fidel Castro’s family is out of power.
Cuba got some relief when Barack Obama became president, but as soon as Donald Trump first came to power, he reversed most of Obama’s decisions and isolated Cuba again. In 2019, Trump declared Cuba a terrorist supporting country. When Joe Biden came to power, Cuba again got some relief, but after Trump came back to power, his condition became the same.
