The case of the death of the American nuclear scientists, missing from home after being shot, is complicated

The death and disappearance of scientists associated with nuclear and aerospace research in America has created a stir. Recently an MIT professor was shot and killed, a retired Air Force general disappeared from home and an aerospace engineer went missing while trekking.

At least 10 people involved in sensitive US nuclear and space research have died or gone missing in the past few years, CNN reports. The cases are now under federal investigation, prompting speculation of a conspiracy.

Shot outside the house

Nuno FG, MIT nuclear physicist and director of the Plasma Science and Fusion Center. Loreiro, 47, was shot outside his home in Massachusetts in December 2025. He was later admitted to a hospital where he died. The police are investigating it as a case of murder.

Retired Air Force Major General William Neal McCausland disappeared from his home in New Mexico in February 2026, leaving behind a phone, eyeglasses and other items. He was involved with the Pentagon’s advanced aerospace programs. The FBI is now helping to find them.

Disappeared in the forest

Monica Reza, a 60-year-old aerospace engineer, disappeared in June 2025 while hiking in the woods in Los Angeles. She was director of the Materials Processing Group at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). The FBI has said it is looking into any connection between the deaths and missing persons cases. He is working closely with the Department of Energy, Department of Defense and local police.

Investigation of the matter has started

The Republican-led House Oversight Committee on Monday announced the launch of an investigation into these matters. James Comer, chairman of the committee, said, ‘This cannot be a coincidence. It is a threat to national security. He has sought briefings from the FBI, Defense, Energy and NASA.

NASA said it is cooperating with the relevant agencies but does not see any threat to national security at this time. The White House and President Donald Trump have also described these cases as ‘serious’.
