Veteran Bollywood singer Asha Bhosle has passed away at the age of 92. There is a wave of mourning in the industry due to her death. He has sung more than 12,000 songs in a career spanning 8 decades. In his career he has sung many hit songs including ‘Piya Tu Ab To Aaja’, ‘Dum Maro Dum’, ‘Ude Jab Jab Zulfen Teri’. His film career was great but his personal life had many ups and downs.

At the age of 16, Asha ran away from home and married 31-year-old Ganapatrao Bhosale. Ganpatrao was the secretary of his elder sister Lata Mangeshkar. Asha’s family was not happy with this marriage. There was a crack in the relationship of both the sisters. The two did not speak for years.

Why didn’t Asha change her surname to ‘Bhosale’?

Asha’s marriage with Ganpatrao was nothing short of a nightmare. He said in one of his interviews that his in-laws are old-fashioned. He never liked his son-in-law to sing in films. Her husband and mother-in-law used to beat her. He had three children from his first marriage.

In 1960, Asha divorced Ganpatrao and took her children with her. Although she was divorced, she never changed her surname as she became a household name with the name. For this reason he never changed his surname.

Married secondly to RD Burman

RD Burman and Asha Bhonsle met in 1966 during the film ‘Teesri Manzil’. Their friendship grew stronger while working together. Their friendship turned into love. RD Burman proposed marriage to Asha. He immediately said yes. RD Burman’s mother did not approve of the relationship as Asha was 6 years older than Burman and had three children. Both got married in 1980.
