Is Asim Munir befriending Iran by betraying Trump? American agencies were scared

The US intelligence community is afraid of Pakistan Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, whom US President Donald Trump calls his favorite field marshal and a soldier with an extraordinary personality. Asim Munir has a long association with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). America’s biggest enemy at the moment is the IRGC, which has added to America’s problems in the Strait of Hormuz.

US intelligence experts are raising concerns about Asim Munir’s IRGC connections. Bill Rozio, a senior fellow at the Washington-based Foundation for Defense of Democracies, has warned that Pakistan’s military leadership should not be trusted.

Why did Asim Munir become a suspect?

A report in the Indian Express claims that Asim Munir’s past ties to Iran and the IRGC pose a threat to the US. Bill Rozio says that Asim Munir, while the director general of Pakistan’s military intelligence in 2016-17, had contacts with leaders of Iran’s military and intelligence agencies.

A retired Pakistani general also claimed that Munir has been regularly meeting Iran’s foreign minister, parliament speaker and IRGC officials. Asim Munir is playing an important role in the back-channel contacts between America and Iran. Recently he is being used for talks with Iran.

Why is Trump on Asim Munir?

Every US government is leaning towards Pakistan. People are now projecting Shahbaz Sharif as Prime Minister who acts like a puppet. On the contrary, the real leadership is with Asim Munir. Be it talks with Iran or America, Asim Munir is supporting Trump by playing on the front foot. Trump was excited about similar things in Operation Sindoor.

Now American experts believe that Trump should be careful considering Pakistan’s old policies and Munir’s deep ties with Iran. Asim Munir has contacts on both sides, hence his motives are being questioned. Trump also spoke to the Pakistani leadership during his recent meeting with Vice President JD Vance in Islamabad.
